MeetingPoints Mining in Zambia
Meeting Points Mining has established it’s concept in Botswana, Namibia and South Africa and has received very positive feedback from these countries. Together with SIDA (Swedish International Development Agency) we have agreed to introduce this concept to the thriving mining nation of Zambia.
Zambia’s mining industry is growing and trends suggest an increase in the mining sector from $590m (2010) to $1.35bn (2015). Although Zambia has started from a low level it is now on the top-10 list of countries in terms of growth – a sign of willingness for self-development. This is an important factor in reaching the goal of becoming a middle-income nation within the next few decades. Zambia’s mining sector, if well managed, provides an important piece of the puzzle.
However, growth in Zambia is currently limited due to a lack of infrastructure, an unreliable energy supply as well as some limitations with regards to both technical and business expertise. These limitations to growth provide potential opportunities for Swedish companies to get involved with those in Zambia in order to sustain the projected growth trends.
Zambia’s government encourages foreign investment in mining, which together with a system of low taxation, compared to similar countries, provides a good working climate.
Since 2010 Meeting Points Mining has been travelling to Zambia in order to build up a network of companies and locate some potential projects. Networks are now starting to take shape and many interesting projects and business opportunities have been identified. One particular area where Swedish companies and organizations can contribute is the mining industry, which has requested education at all levels. Furthermore, small scale mining in Zambia is in dire need of both knowledge and equipment.
