As soon as more MeetingPoints Mining projects are signed, we will expand this page.

Is your project fair and square?

BOTSWANA

Half a century ago, Botswana was one of the poorest countries in Africa, but has now become one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Much thanks to rich mineral resources, such as diamonds. Even though the land is covered to 70 % of desert there is a lack of sand. That is, the right kind of sand for concrete in construction work and roads. MeetingPoints Mining is therefore supporting an Aggregate Collaboration project between the Department of Geological Survey in Botswana, and the Geological Survey of Sweden. A capacity building project on mapping rock quality in urban areas, sampling potential quarries and basic analyses.

Another project is The Mineralogical Methods project, between the same partners. It’s about developing more extensive methods of mineral analysis, clay mineral identification and characterization. Also analysis of industrial minerals, ore mineral assemblages as well as gems and semi-precious stones.

NAMIBIA

For many years, Sweden was a primary donor of aid to develop Namibia’s public sector. Times are changing, and the nature of the cooperation as well. The countries remain just as close in hearts and minds. Valuable mining products, like uranium and diamonds, play an important role in the growing economic development in Namibia.

During early July 2011, the first sub-project under the recently inaugurated Matchless Belt project umbrella, was initiated through a field work campaign aimed at sampling key metabasic rocks within the belt.

The present MSc project is based at Uppsala University (UU) in Sweden in cooperation with the University of Namibia (UNAM), and was initiated through discussions between UU, UNAM and MeetingPoints Mining. Financial support for the project has been secured from the Solid Earth Geology program at the Department of Earth Sciences, Uppsala University, the Längmanska foundation, and through a travel grant from the Otterborg donation fund (at UU).

MeetingPoints Mining has several far advanced plans on cooperation projects in the fi eld of small scale mining. Another initiative comprises research on Namibian base metal deposits and their formation.

SOUTH AFRICA

South Africa is an emerging market with an abundant supply of mineral resources and one of the leading mining countries: it is the largest producer of platinum, gold and chromium in the world. MeetingPoint Mining recently started to explore South Africa for possible projects.
